What Hukam is

Every morning a Hukamnama is taken at Sri Harmandir Sahib — the Guru's command for the day. Most apps give you a link to it. Hukam brings it over whole: every Salok, every Pauri, every line, with English translation and transliteration when you want them, and the ang, the raag, the Guru and the date it was taken.

Reading the whole thing in one sitting is not how most days go. So the same reading is on your Home Screen and your Lock Screen, a few lines at a time, moving forward through the day — and in notifications, if you want them, at the hours you choose. By evening you have read it through without ever having sat down to it.

Beside the Hukamnama sit more than fifty thousand lines of Gurbani you can take one at a time, and the seven banis of Nitnem.

Screens

  • The Hukamnama screen: Gurmukhi lines with English translation beneath each one, and the ang, raag and Guru above.

The day's reading, whole, with translation and transliteration.

  • The Customize screen showing a Home Screen widget preview, small, medium and large sizes, and a grid of colours and photographic themes.

Widget sizes, colours and themes, set inside the app.

  • An iPhone Lock Screen carrying a line of Gurbani in Gurmukhi and its English translation beneath the clock.

A line kept on the Lock Screen, in step with the Home Screen.

  • The Quotes screen showing a single line of Gurbani with its translation, one at a time.

Quotes: one line of Gurbani at a time, to sit with.

What is in it

The daily Hukamnama

The full reading, taken fresh each morning. English translation and transliteration, each of which you can turn off. The ang, the raag, the Guru and the date it was taken. Save a reading and reopen it whenever you like.

Home Screen widgets

Small, medium and large. Each one carries the day's Hukamnama a few lines at a time and moves on by itself, so the whole reading passes across your Home Screen over the course of the day.

Lock Screen widgets

A line kept with you above the clock, in Gurmukhi or in English, always in step with what the Home Screen is showing.

Notifications

Real lines of the day's Hukamnama rather than a nudge to open an app. You set how many arrive and the window of the day they may arrive in.

Quotes

More than fifty thousand lines of Gurbani, one at a time. Flick for the next line, tap to open the whole shabad it came from, save the ones that stay with you, and share them as cards.

Nitnem

The seven banis — Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Savaiye, Chaupai Sahib, Anand Sahib, Rehras Sahib and Sohila Sahib — read a couplet at a time.

The calendar

Open any Hukamnama the app has collected by picking its date. The archive runs back to the end of July 2026, when Hukam started keeping them, and grows by a day every day.

Looks

Colours, photographic themes and alternate app icons, for the app and for the widgets. A free reader gets a set of these; the rest are what Premium pays for.

What is free, and what Premium is

Every word of Gurbani in Hukam is free, and always will be. The Hukamnama, its translation and transliteration, the quotes, Nitnem, the calendar, the widgets and the notifications are all free to use, with no account and no daily limit.

Hukam Premium is an optional subscription. It adds more colours, the photographic themes, the alternate app icons, and the two fastest widget change times — every 30 minutes and every 15 minutes, where hourly and slower are free. That is the whole of it: Premium buys the way Hukam looks and how quickly the widget moves on, and it has never bought a line of scripture.

Subscription terms

  • Hukam Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, billed monthly or yearly.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
  • It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • You can manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple Account settings, or in the app under Settings, then Hukam Premium, then Manage Subscription.
  • Apple handles all billing and all refunds. We never see your payment details.

The terms that cover the app are Apple's standard licence agreement together with our own terms.
