What we make
We make daily apps — the kind you open at the same hour every day rather than the kind you binge and abandon. That shapes everything about how they are built. A daily app has to be quick to open, it has to be correct on the first screen, and it has to be there on the days you do not open it at all. So the content goes on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen, where you meet it whether or not you went looking.
Our first app on the App Store is Hukam, which carries the daily Hukamnama from Sri Harmandir Sahib: the whole reading with translation and transliteration, widgets that walk you through it across the day, notifications that carry real lines rather than reminders, a feed of more than fifty thousand lines of Gurbani, and the seven banis of Nitnem.
The apps are native. They are written in Swift and SwiftUI, they use Apple's own frameworks for widgets and notifications rather than a cross-platform shell, and they are built to run correctly on old hardware as well as new. Hukam supports iOS 16, which reaches back to the iPhone 8 — a phone released in 2017.
How the company runs
Amar Labs Inc. is a private company. It has no outside investors and no advertising business, and it is not looking for either. Its income is optional subscriptions bought inside its apps through the App Store, which means the people it answers to are the people using the apps.
Design, code, release and support are all done in-house. The same people who write a feature are the people who read the mail about it, which is slower than a support desk and considerably more useful.
Nothing is contracted out and nothing is white-labelled. An app carries the Amar Labs name because the company built it.
What we will not do
- Charge for scripture
In an app built around a religious text, the text is free — all of it, with no account and no daily limit. A subscription may buy colours and conveniences. It may never buy a verse.
- Sell advertising
No app of ours shows ads, and none asks for permission to track you across other apps and websites. Nothing about you is sold. Where we advertise an app ourselves, its privacy policy says exactly what is measured and by whom.
- Train models on your use
Nothing anyone does inside our apps is used to train an AI model, ours or anyone else's.
- Hold what we do not need
The apps work without an account. What you save, what you read and how you set things up stay on your iPhone. What little does leave the device is written down in full in the privacy policies.
Contact
info@amarlabs.net reaches us for support, press, business, or anything else. A person reads it and answers, usually within a couple of days.
For help with an app, the support page answers the questions that come up most.
